Glade candles at Safeway

The apple/cinnamon candles are marked down at my Safeway - the trio set is $5.99 - go to My Coupons and print out the Glade buy one get one free coupon for Scented Oil Candles holder. So you can get 2 for $5.99 - my store also printed a Catalina for a free refill!

For the record, those Glade Flameless candles smelled SO BAD, I had to set mine outside! Gross! Even though they were cheap, they ended up being a waste of money - so I don't recommend them. However, these scented oil candles in apple cinnamon smell lovely!

New products- Green Superfood and Fage Yogurt!

I love Fage non-fat yogurt - but it's pricey! The cheapest I've gotten it is at Trader Joe's -BUT Costco has started carrying it! Yeah! It was $6.99 for a 35 oz! That is a considerable savings. I eat it with a tablespoon of TJ's Organic Preserves and some of my super cheap granola I got a few weeks back! Yumm.

I am also trying these new Amazing Grass products- I'll post how I like them after I use them awhile. They seem great. Check out their info here. The cheapest I've found it to buy is here.

Gotta love Target clothes!

I LOVE the Target clothes clearance rack! They have some really nice designers lately and at 75% off, things are a steal! My latest find were these European cut shirts - for $3.75 each! I got 3 different patterns.

Grocery Deals this week! Target too!

Thanks to Jennyand Crystalfor the Target tips! I ended up $17 out of pocket - but I have a $10 Gift Card for another time. I got 4 wipes, 2 post-its, 2 Glade candles, one candle refill and 2 bags of Hershey's I needed for Christmas cookie baking.

At Safeway I spent $10 and got 6 boxes of Crackers ($.49 each), 2 bags of spinach ($1 each), 2 bags of coleslaw (both free after coupon) - we use a lot of cabbage and spinach in our daily Vitamix drinks so this comes in really handy- and a box of Clementines ($3.99) and a carton of sweet peppers (forgot to put in pic).

Super Saving Saturday! $292.25 worth of meat for FREE!

I was already so happy this week from my cereal deal at Safeway, and then when I went to work on Friday, my boss had put aside tons of deer meat for me - he and his friend had been hunting and couldn't use all the meat, so they gifted it to my family! I even took a picture I was so excited! I priced it on the internet and it came out to $292.25! That will take us through the whole winter! (I also have my turkey stash from the last Safeway 50% off sale so we are set!) We got:

1 Deer roast - value $20
1 Elk roast - value $60
1 package Deer Round Steak $6.75
3 packages Deer Chops $60 ($20 a lb)
6 packages of ground venison $36
2 packages ground Elk $12
15 packages of breakfast sausage $97.50

I have already shared some of our take with our friends - we also took his family some Cheerios and juice. It's so fun to share the blessings we have been given!

Holiday fun festivities!

The kids made a gingerbread house yesterday (well, not from scratch - we bought the kit at Trader Joe's)! They always love this annual holiday activity.

Safeway $10 off 10 gets even better - they pay you!!

I'm so excited- I had to share! I was at Safeway tonight getting icing for the kids gingerbread house making and I noticed that the Cheerios were marked $1.66 a box - the ad said they were $2.50 each and I was calculating my savings on that price when I was making my shopping decisions for the week.

Well, if you buy 10 boxes of Honey Nut Cheerios - use the blinkies in the aisle (5 of them) for $.75/2 =your total for 10 will be $2.85 ($.28 a box). On the inside of the Honey Nut box are coupons for $1.00 off Cheerios Crunch (the new one with oat clusters)- cut those out and go back again and you will have $10 in manufacturers coupons + $10 promo = $3.40 back to you!!! You will get paid $3.40 to take 10 boxes of cereal home with you! This is too fun! All my friends at church will be set with cereal this week! Did you hear that Kathy?

This promotion is good until December 8th!

Organic and natural foods and products.

On the right hand side I have a poll about organic/natural food and products. If you would like to make a comment about how you voted, please feel free to post the comments here!

I have in the past bought organic occasionally, but now, with many things I've recently read and researched, I'm committing to a more organic natural lifestyle which includes what we eat, what we use for cleaning our bodies and what we use for cleaning our home. It can be a bit more expensive for some items, but I believe we are investing in our health.

Blackberry Corn Muffins

I tried a new recipe today - they are oh so yummy and healthy! I got the recipe from Cottage Living Nov. 2007. I can't find it online in Cottage Living, but here is the same recipe linked. I used yellow cornmeal because I did not have blue and I ground the whole wheat flour fresh in my Whispermill.

Blackberry-blue corn muffins

Breakfast- make it delicious and nutritous!

I thought I would blog today about two of my favorite, standby breakfast foods! We rotate these into our morning routine often.

First is good old fashioned oatmeal! I make the basic oatmeal (4 grams fiber) and add ground flaxmeal to it (4 grams) and wheat germ (2 grams fiber) and a sprinkle of walnuts and a spoon of natural organic peanut butter for protein and staying power - top with a teaspoon of organic maple syrup and some organic fat free milk and it's like eating a cookie!

One kitchen tool I can't live without is my Back to Basics Egg and Muffin Toaster! I got it at Target for around $30 and it has been worth every penny! You can cook a round egg, a meat and toast an english muffin all at the same time - 4 minutes later you have a healthy version of a McMuffin! I use whole wheat english muffins to start (4 grams fiber) and I use 1 whole egg + an egg white in the pan -then either canadian bacon or a fully cooked turkey sausage patty (the machine won't COOK raw meats, just steams and heats up previously cooked ones). I jazzed it up a bit today for DH and made him a spinach, low-fat cheese omelet style with canadian bacon (low-fat). Did you know eggs are the world's most perfect source of protein?

Many mornings we now also add a Vitamix smoothie - I feel so good knowing that before 9am, we have in several servings of fruit and vegetables! Today I made the kids "orange sherbet" for breakfast - organic frozen oj concentrate, carrot, cabbage and ice - they ate every bite! For myself I made a Mango drink - mango, banana, strawberry, an orange, and ice. This is what the photo shows.

Good deals in Safeway Sunday flyer

I found some great deals in the Sunday flyer for Safeway this week - they have a promotion if you buy 10 certain items you automatically get $10 off. There are some good deals!

I got the 5 lb. box of clementines for $3.88! They are were on sale for $4.88 and there is coupon in this Sunday's paper. These are normally $9.xx here!! The kids love them! I'm sure I'll be back for another box before the week is up!

Pomegranates are 2 for $3.00 and there is a $1.00 coupon in the Sunday paper - so 2/$2!

I bought 10 packages of Back to Nature Classic granola - on sale for $3.00 each- I had one $1.00 coupon (from the Mambo Sprouts book)- and then the $10 off promo made it $1.90 a package! I am excited because granola and yogurt is about the only dessert DH and I eat anymore and I normally pay $4.00 a package for Bear Naked - so this is a 50% savings for us. It's all natural - though I do wish it had a bit less sugar (Bear Naked has the lowest I know) even though it's cane juice and fruit sugars, so for a dessert I guess I'll live with it.

Last of all, Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage - on sale for $2.50 each - buy 10 and get $10 off - so $1.50 a package. This is usually $4.59 a package!! It's fully cooked and 1/2 the fat of regular sausage - so it's great to freeze and use for quick breakfast convenience.

I would have purchased 10 boxes of Honey Nut Cherrios (only dry cereal #2 son will eat) but they were out of stock - with the blinkie coupons ($.75 off 2) and the $10 promo - it would be $1.35 a box for a 14-17oz. box. I'll go back before the promo ends for that. I need a bigger pantry! I'm going to have to convert a closet!

It won't be long until I head to Lowe's for a freezer (or perhaps Craigslist if I'm lucky!) I am making room in my laundry room for one now!
