Nie Nie Day Auction #1! Vera Bradley Designer Handbag - Value $80!

I am thrilled!  I am so excited!  The whole NieNie Day experience has been wonderful - seeing people come together in such a way to help people they have never even met! Wow, it renews your faith doesn't it?

Because of the generous donation from the GREAT people at Designers Center - I have a new auction to add!  I'm proud to present a Vera Bradley Microfiber Cargo Hobo Handbag, an $80 value!   I absolutely love all my Vera's - they are designed for fashion as well as function and they hold up wonderfully- great quality!  I recently gave a friend of mine a Vera Bowler Bag and she has carried nothing else since!  I have purchased my Vera's from Designers Center for 2 years now since discovering Veras and the people there are great!  (Hi to Jared & Tracy!!)  They always send me new Vera catalogs every season and great coupons to redeem for limited edition Vera treasures!  They even call me when they get a new line in - LOOOOVE that- how is that for customer service?  I highly recommend them!  (P.S. - they carry all kinds of other great designer stuff as well - Pandora Jewelry, Swarovski, Skagen Denmark.)

Now for the Fab Handbag description : The curved top and two outer patch pockets of this good-looking cargo give it a couture look. Zip open the top to find another zippered pocket plus two slip compartments. The comfortable shoulder strap makes it easy to tuck under your arm and go.

Please follow these guidelines in bidding on the auction.

When can I bid?

Where do I place my bid?

In the comment section of each item's post. I will leave the first bid, then the next bidder can submit a comment with their bid like, "I bid $25." And with each bidder to follow they just leave a comment with their price.

Nie Nie Day Auction #2!!

As part of Design Mom's Nie Nie Day celebration,  I am auctioning off a piece of artwork by Claire B. Cotts to help raise money for the Nielson Recovery Fund. The piece of artwork was not mine to begin with, but was donated in love by my dear friend Kathy to help the Nielson family.

If you are not familiar with the story of the Stephanie & Christian, please read about it here. Stephanie's blog, The Nie Nie Dialogues, can be found here. Stephanie's sister CJane is giving frequent updates on the family here.  I just recently discovered Stephanie's blog, but it has inspired me like no other to be a better wife, mother and homemaker!  Even though we have not met in person, I have no doubt she is a wonderful, beautiful person and the heart of her family.

The art piece is a painting on ceramic.  These are a few words from the artist about this piece:
"The painting was based on a black and white photo that I had tucked in my image file.  I loved the erect posture, the mix of tension and grace in the pose, the amazing silhouette of the dress, the moire pattern on the silk.  It wasn't until long after I painted it that I discovered it was a photo of the young Isabella Stewart Gardner, collector, philanthropist and patron of the arts. The painting I did is not so much a portrait of her, per se, but an attempt to capture gesture and good mood."

You can read more about Isabella Stewart Gardner here.
And you can read more about the artist, Claire, here.

Please follow these guidelines in bidding on the auction.

BPA free containers for school lunches!

I'm answering my own post about wanting to find more BPA free products.  Today at Walgreen's I was surprised to find the Thermos Brand Funtainers on sale for $11.24 each!  The cheapest I have seen them is at Target for $15.59.  They have the smaller food jars and the larger drink containers with a straw.  Since they are stainless steel, they are BPA free! Yeah!
Check them out here.

I was also happy to find out that the Costco brand bottled water called Kirkland - is packaged in BPA free plastic!

Good info to know about BPA in plastics

I am becoming more concerned with my children's exposure to BPA in plastics simply because it messes with the hormones and development in children.  It mimics estrogen in the body and is found in concerning levels of the humans that have been tested.  I am trying to do all I can to minimize our exposure, but I was shocked to learn this week that BPA is in the lining of all canned foods!  I use organic canned tomotoes and beans frequently in my chili recipes.  I guess this means that I will now have to start making all our beans from scratch (I already make many from scratch) but this will mean more work to be diligent on my part (guess a homeschooling mom can't catch a break??)

I have already switched to glass for food storage and everyday drinking and I purchased the new BPA free Vitamix container several months ago.

There are two articles here and here that are informative - I am still doing much study on this subject.
