What I've learned via Fashion Blogging in 2010! (and I made something)

With Maggie's tutelage, I was able to complete my first hat in 2010, just in the nick of time! I am so proud! I never make anything! It feels good!

Well, the year is just about ready to come to an end- so hard to believe. Where has the time gone? I started my blog a few years back, focusing on food couponing and healthy eating, and this year I stumbled upon fashion blogging quite by accident because I discovered Anthropologie had a store in my area and I googled Anthropologie outfits and found, guess what??? Anthroholic!! I was hooked! I followed link to link and found a wonderland of fashion ideas! It's been a fun year jumping in and participating in the whole "OOTD" craze and along the way I've learned some lessons!

1. Beauty comes in many different packages! It's been great to find fashion blogs where the women are all different shapes and sizes, and have all different styles and ideas! I gain something from all of them! I, like many women, can always find fault with my own size, but I am learning to love me, flaws and all. As long as I am living a healthy lifestyle, I am learning to be happy with me! Reading many of your blogs has helped me a lot in this area of my life.

2. There are substitutes for just about every look out there! While I love being able to buy a quality item that will stand the test of time, it's just not possible for me to buy 100% Anthro, Jcrew, or the like, so I make the most of my trend shopping by studying the stores I like and then re-creating them via a less expensive route. It's a challenge and it's fun!

3. Gain from others but be yourself! I have learned so many things from bloggers this year that I would have NEVER tried before! Reading all the fashion blogs has really helped me step out of my "Gymboree Matchy Mode"! It's wonderful to gain inspiration from other bloggers, but I have learned I need to make it my own. There is nothing creative about seeing a blog friend buy an outfit, then go buy the exact same out and wear it. I've learned to use style principles and apply them to what I already have.

4. Having style doesn't equal shopping! This is a big one! When I first started blogging, I felt I had to always be buying something new to post. Thanks to wonderful bloggers like Kendi and Elaine, I have learned it actually takes more creativity and style to work with what you've got! I've learned I actually function better with less! Like Coco Chanel said "A girl should be two things - classy and fabulous!" Neither of which require a credit card!

5. Even if you are only staying at home all day, get up and get dressed! After having 3 kids in 1.5 years, I spent quite a bit of time in my "uniform" of tee shirt and sweats! When my twins were 3, I decided to get with it and exercise and eat right, I lost 40 pounds and it was fun to get dressed - even though I was only at home! There are no more important people to look good for than your family!

Thanks to everyone who stops by here to read and know that I appreciate all your comments and feedback!

Happiest of New Years to All! Here's to a wonderful 2011!

Then I got THE best surprise today at work!! Since I am a part-time employee I really don't qualify for a bonus, but since they are so super-d-duper nice to me at my workplace, they gave me an Anthropologie gift card to show their appreciation for what I do at the office! I was so happy!! These were my picks- I scored big as they were on sale and extra 25% off and then my gift card, almost free!!

Wily Sweater- do you remember when I LOVED this, bought it, felt guilty and returned it?? Well, they had one left and it was my size!! Look Sara - I got it!
Deletta Showpiece Tee
Mary Dress by Maeve
And does anyone know the name of my mystery shirt? It is just a tee but laid so beautifully on - it's a gray/blue. Please comment if you know. I must know the names of my clothing!

My most prized gift!

I just had to do a quick post to show you all what my 10 year old daughter made me for Christmas! I can't even believe it!

I had expressed interest in this beautiful shawl some time back when we saw it on Dottie Angel. My sweet daughter took note and set to work making it for my Christmas gift! I am amazed! She is self-taught and studied the photo and read the tutorial and made this all by herself!

I absolutely love it! I wore it today with a gray t-neck and tan cords and am wearing it again to church tomorrow with a black sweater dress. It's so Anthro-esque! She put her own spin it by adding her signature crocheted rose as a closure. I am so grateful for the gift of love, a hand-made item that took her time and patience to create something special for me!!

Santa Came!

Santa came and left us presents! So fun! We are having a great time with our Wii!

Thanks to all my blog friends who keep in touch via the blog-o-sphere! I appreciate every one of you and I hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing holiday with your family and friends!

Be on the lookout for the debut of my "High Hopes Wrap" my incredibly talented 10 year old daughter made me for Christmas!

OOTD- Professional Wear

Went into the ol' workplace today for my 1 day this week! It is so great to work for a boss who is one of my dearest friends! We work together so great as a team and we laugh all day doing it! OOTD- Refined Cord over Tucker!

Today I am trying my Refined Cord Dress yet another way! I have layered it as a sort of coat dress over my Tucker for Target Painted Flowers Tunic! I have on sweater tights and knee socks, with my Kachiri boots! Warm and snuggly!

I am distressed though, because all of my Refined Cord Dress buttons are falling off! How in the world can you pay so much for a dress and the buttons fall off?? I am NOT a seamstress, but will have to figure out how to sew these on tighter before I lose one!

Dress: Anthropologie Refined Cord -Retail $128
Tunic: Tucker for Target Painted Flowers Retail $39.99 - sale $9.99
Sweater Tights: Banana Republic- Retail $28 - sale $6

Knee Socks: Gold Toe via Ross - $1.99
It is raining buckets here every day so I have to rely on my pony tail! If I curl my hair, it will fall out in two seconds because of the moisture. I'm off and running to finish my last few Christmas items!!

OOTD and a Little Vacation!

I love gingham, I love shirt dresses - this little number has both, so what's not to love! I wore this to our "Reindeer Breakfast" this morning! We had a big homemade breakfast around the table, while wearing our antlers and listening to Christmas music!

Dress: Jones of New York
Cardi: Merona
Shoes: Mossimo
We took a little short vacay to our fav spot, Yosemite! We stayed in the Lodge, it was very relaxing and we loved seeing the snow!

Snowball fight!
My kids love their dad, what more could I ask for? Who couldn't love this guy, he's wonderful.
Love ya, John (Muir, that is!)
Here is a little chipmunk in the museum, my uncle used to call me "Chipmunk" because he said I talked non-stop in a super high-pitched chipmunk voice! My car even had a "Chipmunk" license plate on it in college!
All the kids wanted to do was play in the snow!! We never get to see it!

ROSS is like a box of chocolates....you never know what you're going to get!!

I have had my eye on a few items at ROSS that finally hit double, triple markdown!!

Free People Sparkle & Shine Cardigan
Retail Price $98- ROSS price $8!!
It reminds me of the Jcrew ones!
Mac & Jac Striped Assymetric Cardigan in black
Nordstrom Price $69, ROSS price $4.99!

Calvin Klein Sweater Dress
Zappos Price $102.40, ROSS price $4.99!!! Calvin Klein has the nicest quality sweater dresses!

These are all high quality items that I got at a fraction of the price!!

I was watching "What Not To Wear" while on holiday (we don't have TV, so it was a real treat!) and Stacy kept saying to the client, "You have to pay more for your clothes to get the quality" and I kept thinking, "No you don't, not if you have patience and know where to look!"
