What a perfect snack for Valentine's Day!
I was so happy to receive some samples from Mark at Heart Thrive in my mail this week. I was so anxious to try these snack cakes as my friend Vicki has been raving about the company's other product, Suncakes. I was fortunate to get one of each flavor to review:ApricotCranberryAppleDateLemon PoppyseedRaisinChocolate Chip I am happy to report, I am in love with these little snack cakes - LOVE THEM! After coming off my juice fast, I was looking for something healthy, filling and without a ton of sugar. These fit the bill perfectly! Heart Thrives are a delicious, VEGAN and NON-GMO energy bar. Made with oats, soy and dried fruits, each Heart Thrive supplies 30% daily PROTEIN, FIBER and CALCIUM. Heart Thrives are made from ingredients with a low glycemic index that metabolize slowly providing sustained energy for hours.
Wow! That's a BIG punch in a little snack.
I am not going to say that these are tasty like a candy bar- they are not. They are healthy, full of whole grains and foods to fuel your body. If you have already been eating healthy foods, you will love them instantly. If you are used to processed foods, then you may find these will take some getting used to as they aren't chocked full of sugar and preservatives.
Heart Thrives are doctor recommended as ready to eat meals and snacks for people looking to maintain blood sugar balance with slow-burning, low-glycemic nutrition. They are high in fiber and low in fat and sugar.
I am so grateful to this company for producing this "meal in a cake". I can throw these in my purse and have them on hand when I get stuck out somewhere and I don't want to cave to fast foods and sugars. They average about 160 calories per cake (give or take depending on flavor). They are wheat and dairy free! They aren't certified gluten-free and this is what the website states:
California Suncakes™and Heart Thrives® are wheat-free. However, they may contain trace amounts of gluten, so we do not label them as gluten-free. Our oats are milled at a facility that also processes other grains. When switching grains, the first several hundred pounds that pass through the mill are rejected, thereby minimizing possible traces of other grains. If you are gluten-intolerent, exercise caution; but for most individuals the potential trace amount of gluten is insignificant.
I can tell you I have had no problem with them and I am gluten-intolerant. So if you are looking for a low-cal, healthy snack alternative, you MUST try Heart Thrive cakes. You won't be sorry!
